The Arts Collaborative of Wakefield (ACW) is hosting the Past Tense Art Exhibit, Fundraiser, and Sale at the Albion Cultural Exchange this weekend. This event features works by 30 local artists and students from Wakefield High School, showcasing over 100 original pieces, including drawings, paintings, prints, ceramics, photography, fibers, and mosaics, all available for viewing and purchase. Special guests this weekend include a local historian, members of the Beebe Library, and the Parade Committee. The event is generously sponsored by The Savings Bank.
On Friday, April 17, from 5 to 8 pm, special guest David Workman, a curator from the Wakefield Historical Society and an 18th century re-enactor, will be present with several local historical Wakefield paintings, along with reproductions of 18th century handmade dolls and functional items.
On Saturday, April 18, from 11 am to 2 pm, the Beebe Library will highlight Wakefield art, history, and architecture, featuring several paintings by local artist Joseph C. Payro. Payro created oil paintings of buildings and landmarks, many of which are no longer standing, with photograph-like precision, paying close attention to detail. Mr. Payro worked as a reed worker for the Heywood-Wakefield Company and took many photographs of the company products, which now serve as a historical reference source.
The Wakefield Independence Parade Committee will be present to discuss the parade, which is the largest in Massachusetts, the second largest in New England, and the fifth largest in the United States. This cherished tradition has been bringing our community together since 1922! They will showcase parade art and logos, along with the parade's history and memorabilia, including 'Indy,' the parade mascot!
The Small Works Fundraiser offers visitors the chance to purchase artwork, with all proceeds supporting a WMHS art student attending art school in Fall 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire unique art pieces while supporting a meaningful cause. ACW artists have been creating their 5x7 donations for the event. For just $10.00, attendees can select a small artwork, take it off the wall, and bring it home. This fundraiser allows friends, family, and visitors to buy affordable, cool art while contributing to a worthy cause.
Don’t miss this chance to experience Past Tense and the Small Works Fundraiser. Whether you wish to purchase a unique artwork or simply enjoy the creative atmosphere, there is something for everyone. Immerse yourself in the local art scene, support talented artists, and connect with other art enthusiasts. Join us this Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM or Saturday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The closing reception is on Friday, April 24, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. For more information about the Arts Collaborative, visit www.artscollaborativeofwakefield.com.
