ACW's Inspired by… continues this weekend at the Albion Cultural Exchange

During the well-attended opening weekend of the Arts Collaborative of Wakefield’s Inspired by… exhibit, attendees cast their votes for the Viewers Choice Award. Congratulations to ACW artist Brian K. Johnson, who garnered the most votes for his printed fabric art. “Made You Look” was inspired by the horror of mind-numbing distractions and is composed entirely of contemporary headlines superimposed over a single frame from the Surrealist film Un Chien Andalou by Salvador Dali and Luis Bunuel.
Joy Schilling secured second place with her acrylic painting, the “Wheel of the Year”, which draws inspiration from the Celtic calendar that tracks the changing seasons and celebrates a connection to nature's rhythm of life, death, and rebirth. Third place was awarded to Judy Hartman for “A Breezy Day”, an autumn-inspired fabric collage that pays tribute to Mother Nature.
Inspired by… showcases works from 30 local artists, available for viewing and purchase, featuring a diverse range of media such as drawings, paintings, prints, ceramics, photography, fibers, and mosaics. This weekend will include artist demonstrations. On Friday night, Denis Loginowski from Proof-of-Concept, a community-focused workshop in Wakefield, will be selling 3D printed artworks, operating a 3D printer, and answering questions about the use of 3D printing in various art forms. Information will be available about the services offered at Proof-of-Concept, including advanced fabrication tools like waterjets and laser cutters, expert on-site training, and a collaborative space for creators to find camaraderie, seek project partners, and bring their next big invention to life. On Saturday, Kathy Frey will demonstrate needle felting, a sculptural craft using wool. With
specialized barbed or notched needles, she repeatedly pokes and tangles loose wool fibers into solid 3D sculptures or flat 2D designs.
The Small Works Fundraiser has returned, offering artwork for sale at just $10.00 each. This event is a great chance to acquire unique art pieces while supporting a noble cause. All proceeds will go to PAWS, a volunteer-run, non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights and well-being of domestic animals and wildlife, as well as fostering a greater understanding of animal welfare and rights through education.
Inspired by… and 5 x 7 Small Works Fundraiser will be available on Fridays: October 9, 16, and 23 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Saturdays: October 10, 17, and 24 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Albion Cultural Exchange. This art exhibit and sale is generously sponsored by The Savings Bank.
