During the well-attended opening weekend of the Arts Collaborative of Wakefield’s “ARTOBER” exhibit, attendees voted for Viewers Choice. Congratulations to ACW artist Heather DiGiovanni, who received the most votes for her pastel painting, Caleb. This exceptional portrayal of a dog, familiar to members of St Joseph’s Church, is remarkably lifelike. Joy Schilling earned second place with her Black Cat Mosaic. This fall-inspired image, featuring pumpkins, corn, a crow, and a cat, was created using small colorful tiles.
There was a four-way tie for third place, highlighting the high quality of the art in this show. Brian K Johnson won two awards for his work. Peace Piece is crafted with blue and green plastic soldiers arranged and melted into the shape of a peace sign. Tim Berners-Lee in HTML is a portrait rendered entirely using text and grayscale values. TimBL is an English computer scientist best known as the inventor of the World Wide Web. Elizabeth Noble’s oil painting, Nya, depicts her beautiful friend, created from Nya’s own Instagram photos and designed with her generous permission. Blossoms, by Stephanie Stigliano, combines brush painting and monoprint. She layers her imagery using line, texture, light, and shadow to create this beautiful image.
This weekend, there will be two artist demonstrations. On Friday night, Elizabeth Noble will demonstrate how to quickly sketch apples using a variety of supplies, many of which you already have at home, including a ballpoint pen and crayons. She will discuss the importance of learning to draw and paint and building a creative habit. On Saturday, Maryellen Henning will demonstrate how to make Paper Leaf Pendants.
Experience ARTOBER at Albion Cultural Exchange This Weekend on Friday, 10/10, from 5:00 - 8:00, and on Saturday, 10/11, from 11:00 - 2:00 to see the Viewer's Choice Award winners’ work, as well as the work of all 37 local artists featuring over 125 pieces of art, a collection from WHS Art students, and artwork available for $10.00 in the Small Works Fundraiser. Hope to see you there.
